Type locality of Gobius nigripinnis. First record from Réunion as Gobius commersonii by Smith (1959a: 215); it was previously described as G. nigripinnis Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1837:101) and was listed as G. ocellaris (non Broussonet, 1782) by Guichenot (1863: C27); record confirmed by Fricke (1999:499-500), based on MHNRUN and MNHN material. Status of threat: VU. Threats: EUT, CON. Sensitive to human activities. Keystone species. Significant decline. High priority for conservation action. Proposed for Annexes II and IV of the EU Habitats Directive (Ref. 82332).
